Prior to founding Nashville Management Group in 2001 and Compass Executives in 2006, Art spent 14 years with his family’s business, Cutters Exchange, where he rose to the position of President in 1985. In 1987, he sold the distribution business to the Singer Company where he then ran the North American Industrial Operations. In 1988 he formed Warner Street Associates, a consulting business that worked with over 40 clients in the apparel, corrections, energy, entertainment, and healthcare industries. In 2001, Art and four partners formed Nashville Management Group, Inc.

 

Art is a senior general management executive with strong turnaround capabilities, combined with organizational and analytical skills. Key strengths include strategic planning, operational management, and issues specific to family-owned businesses. Art possesses a broad background in manufacturing, distribution, sales and marketing, as well as consulting with both domestic and international operating experience. Art has served as the Interim General Manager of a family owned 50 year old manufacturing company when the 2nd generation owners were unable to agree on the direction of the business. He has served as the Interim President and Restructuring Officer for a 130 year old Virginia College and has guided the sale of a medical equipment business for the owner who was facing a critical health issue. As Interim President, Art developed and implemented a plan for a Denver based technology company to enter a new industry though a joint venture that provided capital and a manufacturing/distribution partner.

 

Art has served as a Board Member and Lead Director for Synovus Bank of Nashville since 2007. He served as a Board Member and the first Chair of the Maddox Charitable Fund, was the founding Board President for Renewal House, and has served as a Commissioner and the Chair of the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission and as the Chair of the Tennessee Turnaround Management Association. Art currently serves on the Board of Teach For America – Nashville-Chattanooga and has served on the Boards of Centerstone, Nashville Public Television, and the Girl Scouts. Art earned a BS from Georgia Tech and MBA from Vanderbilt.
